MEN'S CLUB
• Night at the Opera - Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - annual sellout featuring the Sarasota Opera Company
• Klezmer Celebrates Shalom Again — Sunday, December 10, 7:00 PM. What better
way to welcome back and kickoff a new and exciting Men’s Club Season than a freilicha
night of entertainment by the Mike Eisenstadt Klezmer Band followed by
a tasty reception. Early reservations are recommended. . . It’s
traditionally a sellout.
• Wagner and Anti-Semitism —
Wednesday, January 18, 7:00 PM. Commentary with music by Dr. Goodman,
music archivist, former Professor Emeritus of Music Theory and
Composition, Boston University and currently responsible for the
Sarasota Music Archives at Selby Library. Reception follows this
presentation.
• Saving Yiddish Literature with Aaron Lansky
— Sunday, January 28, 2:00 PM. In his best-selling book,
Outwitting History, Aaron Lansky tells the extraordinary and
fascinating story of how he and a few volunteers saved over 1.5 million
Yiddish books of all kinds from dusty attics and dustbins across Europe
and America. It started out as a student adventure, and ended up as the
rescue of a dying culture. Reception with the author follows his
presentation.
• Jewish Major Leaguers
— Monday, February 5,2:00 PM. Come hear Dr. Martin Abramowitz,
the founding president of Jewish Major Leaguers, Inc., who has
identified 145 Jewish Major League Baseball players from the
1870’s to date, not only by name but perpetuated on their own set
of baseball cards. The group was formally
recognized at the 2004 Hall of Fame at which the first kosher luncheon was served.

• Night at the Movies Series — Thursdays, 7:00 PM

• December 4th, “Paid up Luncheon” with Rabbi Eisenstat
• January 29th, annual Fashion Show/Luncheon at LBK Club.

• Game Day, date to be announced for February/March.

• BIW will also sponsor a Crafts Day in the parking lot with town permission and possible a Flea Market Sale as well, which we will coordinate with Men’s Club.

• Passover Seder — April 2007 at Longboat Key Club Harbourside Dining Room
Mini Versity Highlights
• Bible Commentary Series. Five sessions led by five different rabbis on different books of the Bible.
• Rabbis Eisenstat, Weiss and Kasdan will each do multi-sessions on various theological themes.
• Rabbi Steinbrink will do a series on the history and the future of the Reform movement in the United States. His wife will do a series on Jewish themes in the American theater.
• Kabalah. Back by popular demand. Class by Bob Waxman.
• Jewish Artists and Their Works.
Kevin Costello will do an expanded series on Jewish artists and their
works, concluding with an exhibit of the works of young Jewish artists
from the Ringling School of Design.
